Putting the engine back on felt like an important turning point. I was actually starting to put this thing back together again after all this time. Very encouraging to start to see it take shape again.
I forgot exactly how to fit the engine back onto the frame since it'd been so long since I took it off. I made it way more complicated than necessary, thinking I had to do something unusual to get it off. It was actually pretty simple after struggling with it for a long time. One of those 'doh moments. After the engine came the swing arm and rear shocks, ignition coil, carburetor and intake pipe, air cleaner housing, side cover grommets, and battery box. Then I ran out of time (and energy) for this weekend, but felt great to make this much progress.
That engine is stunning. Look at the contrast between before and after rebuild - yes, it is the same engine...amazing! Tim in MN could not have done a better job. BTW, click on the pics for larger views.
